Adventures in Tracking Down an Autoharp

I’ve never been one of those people who spends the weekend antique-ing or garage sale-ing, but yesterday I spent a large portion of my day tracking down an amazing deal on autoharps at an estate sale.

Now, autoharps may not be pianos, but they’re still pretty cool. They’re great instruments for kids and music education, as well as a cool piece of Americana. I had been casually looking for one for awhile, but they seemed a bit out of my price range until this estate sale with dozens available popped up in my area. I obviously jumped on the opportunity to snag one for a price I could afford. Apparently there was quite a selection of not just autoharps, but musical instruments in general, including a functioning old school player piano.

I ended up buying two autoharps, one for my daughter and one for her friend. I also attempted to tune them, which was more difficult than I anticipated, considering that I am a professional piano tuner, but I got the hang of it eventually. (? Tiny Human)

I love having a house full of musical instruments for my daughter to enjoy and experiment with, and hope it fosters a love of music that will last a lifetime.
